Obesity is a multifactorial health problem contributing to increased morbidity and mortality worldwide. My research interest lies in understanding the interactions between disturbed growth factor signalling, cellular energy metabolism and obesity. I) We are establishing in vitro and animal models for adipose tissue overgrowth associated with insufficiency in the tumour suppressor PTEN, as occurs in patients with the rare disease PTEN Hamartoma Tumour Syndrome. II) We are aiming to understand how salvage metabolism of the coenzyme and enzyme substrate NAD is regulated in different diet-induced obesity mouse models and what impact a disturbed mitochondrial function has.
