Antonio Di Meglio

I am an Italian medical oncologist focused on the care of breast cancer patients. I have devoted a considerable amount of my training to clinical and translational research design and implementation. I completed a research fellowship in the Breast Oncology Program at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) / Harvard Cancer Center (HCC) in Boston, MA. At that time, I obtained formal training in cancer research methodology, including biostatistics and programming, through advanced coursework at the Harvard School of Public Health, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and through the Harvard Catalyst. I was the recipient of a competitive grant for young oncologists (European Society for Medical Oncology [ESMO] Clinical Research Fellowship) that enabled me to join Gustave Roussy (GR) in Paris, France. At GR I had the privilege to be involved in one of the largest contemporary clinical studies in breast cancer survivorship, the CANcer TOxicity study (CANTO). With CANTO I found my main field of research interest in the assessment and management of treatment-related toxicities and long-term symptoms after breast cancer. I started to lead projects focused on characterizing behavioral factors, such as weight management and lifestyle, and treatment-related toxicity, with a spotlight on cancer-related fatigue (CRF). The CANTO work that I developed informed the design of phase III randomized trials that are currently ongoing (e.g., NCT04304924). In addition, I collaborate on a number of projects assessing other toxicities (e.g., cognitive impairment, sexual concerns, weight gain, muscle-skeletal toxicity, cardiotoxicity), and their medical and social impact, including adherence to therapy and re-employment after cancer. I was awarded an ESMO Best Fellowship Project Award for my studies in CANTO. I recently received a Career Pathway Grant in Symptom Management from Conquer Cancer, the ASCO Foundation and Rising Tide Foundation for Clinical Cancer Research, supporting my current research on CRF in breast cancer survivors. At GR I have the opportunity to mentor younger medical oncologists and biostatisticians and to deliver lectures focused on breast cancer treatment-related toxicities and health behaviors in breast cancer survivorship. I am fully committed to pursue a career in applied breast cancer survivorship and symptom management research, with the overarching aim of having an immediate and meaningful impact on the care of breast cancer survivors.
