Dr. Movahedan is an avid researcher. He helped establish the retina microbiome lab at the University of Chicago and has laid the groundwork for further research in the field by developing the first gnotobiotic animal model for age-related macular degeneration. He has received many awards, including the Intern of the Year Award in 2016 at Mount Sinai Hospital and Albert Pott’s Best Resident Research Award in 2018 at the University of Chicago. He was among top residents nationally invited to the Heed Fellowship Foundation retreat in 2018. He has authored several basic science, translational, and clinical publications in top ophthalmology and vision science journals, as well as book chapters, and continues to contribute to the understanding of major retinal disease.
