Brooks Udelsman

For the past two decades I have been actively involved in translational science, primarily in the field of vascular tissue engineering, as well as health services research focused on thoracic surgery and palliative surgery. During this time my research has been funded through a combination of nationally competitive awards including a grants from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and Society of University Surgeons. At the same time, I have honed my skills as a thoracic surgeon and am growing a clinical practice in the field of thoracic surgery. It has become clear to me that to improve the quality of care we need to utilize a myriad of techniques. I have developed skills to perform research using large national and international databases, in addition to more granular work at the institutional level using natural language processing and other machine learning techniques. Through a focus on outcomes at both the patient and the institutional level I believe we can have a major impact in identifying modifiable risk factors, ultimately leading to higher quality care.
