Bio
Dr. Edwin Lim leads the Translational Metabolomic Group at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Macquarie University, Australia. He is internationally recognized for his clinical research involving tryptophan metabolism. Dr. Lim’s work focuses on how changes in the way that tryptophan is metabolized impact the progression of neurological diseases, linking inflammation, neurodegeneration, neuropsychiatric disorders, lifestyle factors, and the gut-brain axis.
Being an analytical biochemist and biostatistician, Dr. Lim combines targeted metabolome data from biofluids with machine learning approaches to identify prognostic biomarkers for disease progression. He is currently applying a biomarker-guided precision medicine approach to understand how modifiable lifestyle risk factors, such as diet and exercise, can promote homeostatic re-balancing of tryptophan metabolism to improve neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric conditions.
Dr. Lim is Secretary of the International Society for Tryptophan Research. His collaborative work has led to publications in prestigious journals of various disciplines such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Progress in Neurobiology, Gastroenterology, Molecular Psychiatry, and Brain, Behavior and Immunity.
