Charlotte A. Peterson

Charlotte A. Perterson received the BS degree from the University of Notre Dame and the PhD degree from the University of Virginia, followed by two postdoctoral fellowships, the first at the National Eye Institute in the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the second at Stanford University School of Medicine. She is a Joseph Hamburg Endowed professor and the associate dean for research at the College of Health Science, University of Kentucky. Her research interests include elucidation of cellular and molecular mechanisms controlling skeletal muscle structure and function. She is currently funded by the NIH to study the role of adult stem cells in muscle maintenance and growth, mechanisms underlying muscle fatigue, the influence of obesity on muscle function, and inflammation in muscle response to exercise. Her work emphasizes on changes that occur with age with the long-term goal of preventing frailty and loss of functional independence.
