Chelsea Lutz

I am an infectious disease epidemiologist dedicated to improving disease outcomes of global populations by defining and evaluating influences on VPD transmission and vaccine coverage, including the introduction and delivery of new vaccines. I apply epidemiological methods to assess how access and coverage can be affected by demographic and socioeconomic factors. Furthermore, I am interested in evaluating solutions for improving vaccine delivery and uptake, especially among marginalized populations. Currently, I am an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Officer at the Viral Vaccine Preventable Disease Branch in the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases. Prior to EIS, I worked with the Navajo Nation, the White Mountain Apache Tribe, and Alaska Native communities to evaluate the burden of RSV and COVID-19 among Indigenous persons in the Southwest US and Alaska. Research interests: respiratory viruses; vaccine-preventable disease epidemiology; maternal immunizations; determinants and predictors of non- or suboptimal vaccination; global health; disease burden modeling; health disparities and socioeconomic determinants of health; infectious disease epidemiology; applied epidemiology.
