Dr. Buchwald has a clinical and research background in public health and primary care, with special emphasis on the health of Native peoples. Most of her work involves behavioral interventions that aim to reduce or eliminate population health disparities. Her scientific approach is rooted in the social determinants of health and guided by the principles of community-based participatory research. As the Contact Principal Investigator of Native-CHART, she leads the Administrative Core, which supports all logistical, fiscal, and field operations.
