Bio
Professor Baldwin began her career as teacher of English as a Second Language, work that sparked her interest in the rights of immigrants and refugees and drew her to law school. As a law student, Professor Baldwin served on the editorial board of the law review and worked as a Legal Advocate at Northwest Immigrant Rights Project. After law school, she clerked for the Washington State Court of Appeals and then served as the Children’s Legal Rights Coordinator at Volunteer Advocates for Immigrant Justice (now Kids in Need of Defense or KIND), where she gave writing and oral advocacy support to pro bono attorneys serving unaccompanied migrant children in removal proceedings.
In 2009, Professor Baldwin returned to teaching, this time for the Legal Education Support Program Afghanistan (LESPA) at the University of Washington School of Law. As a teacher and writing advisor for LESPA, Professor Baldwin worked with students on Legal English, as well as legal research, writing, and analysis. In the years that followed, Professor Baldwin went on to teach various courses across programs at UW Law, including American Legal Systems and Method, Legal Research Methods, Intensive Legal Writing Workshop, and several other courses in advanced legal writing and research. Throughout her teaching career, Professor Baldwin also provided substantial writing support to students in the UW Law Ph.D. program, including assistance with prospectus development, chapter drafts, citation and editing, and deposit.
