Fernando Botto

Dr Fernando Botto is a cardiologist with extensive experience in acute cardiovascular care. He was Resident in Cardiology and Head of the Coronary Care Unit, Chest Pain Unit and Emergency Department at the Instituto Cardiovascular de Buenos Aires (ICBA). He is also trained in cardiovascular ultrasound. In terms of research skills, he has an MSc in Health Research Methodology in Clinical Epidemiology from McMaster University and was a Research Fellow at the Population Health Research Institute (PHRI), Hamilton, Canada. He also holds a Master in Clinical Effectiveness from a joint programme between the University of Buenos Aires and the Harvard School of Public Health (USA). His previous research focused on acute coronary syndromes, the chest pain unit and the use of troponin. His thesis at McMaster University pioneered the MINS concept (Myocardial Injury after Non-cardiac Surgery) under the supervision of PJ Devereaux, Gordon Guyatt, Lehana Thabane and Salim Yusuf. He now lives in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He is the Chief of Clinical Research Office at ICBA and also works as a cardiologist in the outpatient clinic. His current research is mainly based on subclinical atherosclerosis detected by imaging.
