I am currently working with the Mucin Biology Group at Gothenburg University. Mucins and the secretory goblet cells which synthesise them are poorly understood but serve as the first line of defence at mucosal surfaces. My research includes characterisation of the ontogeny of the intestinal mucus layers in the small intestine and colon and seeks to understand how mucins regulate, and are regulated by, the intestinal bacterial flora.
