Dr. Maconi has published over 120 peer-reviewed articles, 23 book chapters and is Editor of 3 international books on the imaging of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. He has been involved in the development of international guidelines on imaging in Inflammatory Bowel Disease of the European Crohn’s and Colitis Organization.
He is member of the Editorial Board of the following international scientific journals: Digest Liver Dis, Scand J Gastroenterol, World J Gastroenterol, Clinical Drugs Investigation, J Ultrasound and Minerva Gastroenterologica & Dietologica and acted as referee for more than 50 international journals including The Lancet, Gut, Nature – Clin Pract Gastroenterol & Hepatol, Am J Gastroenterol, Alim Pharmacol &Ther, Eur Radiol , Eur J Gastroenterol and Hepatol, Inflamm Bowel Dis, J Intern Med, J Crohn Colitis, J Clin Gastroenterol.
His research interests include clinical and therapeutics of inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular disease of the colon, treatment of H. pylori infection and imaging and ultrasound of the gastrointestinal tract. He is also currently involved in trials and learning programs on ultrasound of the gastrointestnal tract, in particular in inflammatory bowel disease and in diagnostics and therapeutics of inflammatory bowel diseases.
