Focus has been on forest and heathland ecology with emphasis on ecosystem processes and function and whole ecosystem ecology. The emphasis has been on interactions between biogeochemistry and biodiversity, natural processes versus management, soil C and N related processes, plant nutrients and uptake, decomposition and litter quality, nutritional and climate stress. Recent research focus on above- and belowground plant community responses and carbon-nitrogen interactions to environmental changes and the impact on ecosystem services.
