Iris Renata Ribeiro

PhD in Sciences from the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP, Brazil), under the supervision of Dr. Mateus Borba Cardoso from the Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS - CNPEM, Brazil). My project evaluated silica nanoparticles as a platform for oral and intravenous administration and reflected on the challenges of nanomedicine in the face of nasal administration, inspired by the SARS-CoV-2 virus as an example of a nanoparticle with high specificity. In 2019, I did an internship abroad for eight months, at The Ohio State University (OSU – United States), under the supervision of prof. Dr. Aleksander Skardal from the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute. During this internship, I carried out a study of the interactions of functionalized silica nanoparticles with 2D/3D colorectal cancer cultures. I completed my master's degree at the Institute of Chemistry of UNICAMP in 2017, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Watson Loh. During this period, I investigated the responsiveness of liquid-crystalline nanoparticles to triggers of biomedical interest by incorporating cleavable surfactants. I obtained my degree in Chemistry from the Institute of Chemistry of Universidade Estadual Paulista "Júlio de Mesquita Filho" (UNESP, Brazil), doing an internship in the Department of Physical Chemistry, in the field of Condensed State Chemistry, from 2012 to 2013.
