Jean-François Pratte (M’03) received the M.Sc. and the Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the Université de Sherbrooke, Sherbrooke, QC, Canada, in 2002 and 2008, respectively.
He was a Research Engineer with the Instrumentation Division, Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), Upton, NY, USA. He was a key designer of the Rat Conscious animal PET Scanner and was involved in the implementation of the first dual modality PET and magnetic resonance imaging scanner. While working at BNL, he co-authored one paper in Nature Methods, he participated to the submission of three patents and he contributed to the start-up of a company. In 2009, he joined the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, Université de Sherbrooke, where he is currently a Tenured Professor. He is leading a research project on the 3-D vertical integration of single photon avalanche photodiodes array with CMOS readouts. His current research interests include microsystem design and integration for radiation instrumentation, medical imaging (PET scanners), optoelectronic systems, instrumentation of silicon-based electron spin qubits at cryogenic temperature, and instrumentation of quantum sensors, such as NV centers in diamond.
Dr. Pratte is on the Board of the nEXO Collaboration looking for double beta decays neutrinos less. He also a member of the Steering Committee setting up the Institut Quantique, Université de Sherbrooke.
