Jonathan Savitz

My research integrates tools from neuroscience, immunology, psychiatry, and virology to understand the link between immune dysfunction and depression. I completed a Ph.D. in psychiatric genetics and training in clinical neuropsychology at the University of Cape Town (mentors Raj Ramesar and Mark Solms) and subsequently a post-doc in neuroimaging at the NIMH with Wayne Drevets. I received further mentoring by Robert Dantzer, Wayne Drevets, and Mike Irwin (K01 and CoBRE RPL), working at the intersection of affective neuroscience and immunology. I am currently a Principal Investigator at the Laureate Institute for Brain Research and an Associate Professor at The University of Tulsa. I am particularly interested in the co-occurring phenomena of inflammation and impaired adaptive immunity in depression, their etiology, effect on the brain, and implications for public health. I have been the PI on 11 grants including 4 NIH grants and have published >150 peer-reviewed publications (>75 as first or senior author) which have been cited approximately 13,000 times.
