My main scientific contribution was to demonstrate that the most frequently mutated gene in cancer, TP53 (or p53), expresses multiple splice variants, the p53 protein isoforms, and that the p53 isoforms regulate genome wide epigenetic (re)programming enabling differentiated cells to dedifferentiate in stemcells, to proliferate and to differentiate again in the different cell types composing the tissue of interest.
The activities of the p53 isoforms can be pharmaceutically controlled and manipulated, which open perspectives in cell therapy, regenerative medicine, in immune cells selection/activation/ differentiation/exhaustion/CAR-T
