His current research explores proxemics and flexible interfaces for distributed team collaboration, with the invention of new tailorable systems for video conferencing, telepresence, and mixed reality meetings. Dr. Grønbæk has over 30 peer-reviewed publications in leading Human-Computer Interaction conferences and journals, including 2 Best Paper Honourable Mention awards at CHI and ISS and a patent on mixed-reality meetings. He has recently received grants from both the Independent Research Fund Denmark and Microsoft to tackle the challenges of distributed collaboration through the use of Mixed Reality and Generative AI technologies.
