He has conducted clinical practice as consultant, leaded research and trained fellows in critical care from 1990, with special focus on severe pneumonia & precision medicine in sepsis.
He has directed above 20 doctoral thesis, being part of his academic duties as Professor of Medicine at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and Rovira & Virgili University in Tarragona. Currently, he is Professor of translational medicine at Institut de Recerca Vall d’Hebron and Full Professor of Medicine of the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya. He has > 550 indexed manuscripts with 40,629 citations (overall 2,850 per year from 2013). He has been awarded in 2018 as international honorary professor of CSCCM – Chinese Medical Association.
