Dr. Juan G Abraldes is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Alberta, and a member of the Active Medical Staff. He gained his MD in 1995 from the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain. He completed his Gastroenterology Fellowship Training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Liver Unit, Hospital Clinic, University of Barcelona (1996-2000). Following this he completed his training with a fellowship in liver hemodynamics at the Hepatic Hemodynamic Laboratory, Hospital Clinic, University of Barcelona, and a postdoctoral fellowship at Yale University, USA, gaining experience in experimental models of portal hypertension. In 2007 he joined the Faculty of the Liver Unit in Barcelona, where he continued his research as well as his clinical work in portal hypertension and cirrhosis. In 2013 Dr. Abraldes joined the Division of Gastroenterology at the University of Alberta, Canada.
