Juan V Esplugues

Juan Vicente Esplugues' research work initially focused on the study of gastrointestinal pharmacology, nitric oxide, and inflammation, and has diversified in the last 10 years to include the toxicity of antiretroviral drugs and the study of biosimilars and biologic drugs. Full Professor of Pharmacology since 1993, Dr. Esplugues was Scientific Coordinator of the Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares Carlos III between 2001 and 2004, and Vice-President of the Scientific Committee of the Fundación para el Fomento de la Investigación Sanitaria y Biomédica de la Comunitat Valenciana (FISABIO) between 2014 and 2017. He is PI of a group at the Centro de Investigación Biomédica y Hepática en Red (CIBERehd) since its foundation in 2007, and his research groupm has been endorsed since 2010 by the Valencian regional government’s PROMETEO programme, which funds research groups of excellence. Dr. Esplugues is Director of the Unidad Mixta de Investigación en Biomedicina FISABIO-Hospital Dr. Peset-Universitat de València-Universitat Jaume I de Castellón, a collaborative network promoting synergies between basic and clinical researchers in the Valencia region, since its constitution in 2014.
