Dr. Nikolaos (Nicolas) A. Karakatsanis is currently Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering in the Radiology Department of Weill Cornell Medical College, Cornell University in New York, NY, USA. Dr Karakatsanis is also certified from the American Board of Science in Nuclear Medicine (ABSNM) with a specialty in Nuclear Medicine Physics and Instrumentation. He is also a Senior IEEE member and the appointed executive Secretary official (2-year term, 2021-2022) in the Nuclear Medical Imaging Sciences Council (NMISC) of the IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society (NPSS). Previously, he had served as board member (3-year term, 2017-2019) of NMISC, elected from the IEEE NPSS members. Moreover, Dr Karakatsanis is currently elected as the executive Secretary official (2-year term, 2019-2021) of the Physics, Instrumentation and Data Sciences Council (PIDSC) from the members of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI). Prior to that, he had been appointed as the intern of PIDSC earning a 2-year scholarship (2017-2019) which allowed him to create the NMMItools website hosting an up-to-date organized collection of online reference resources to active software and data repositories related to Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging research and quality assurance tasks. Dr Karakatsanis is also serving as Associate Editor in the Clinical Imaging journal and the Nuclear Medicine subsection of the Frontiers in Medicine journal. Dr Karakatsanis spectrum of research projects focuses on the development of multi-parametric quantitative PET/CT and PET/MR imaging systems aiming to enhance the diagnostic, prognostic and theranostic value of pre-clinical and clinical PET as well as its treatment response monitoring capabilities for cardiovascular, oncologic and neurologic diseases.
