Our lab studies bacterial virulence factors. We have two major ongoing projects:
The role of vaginal bacteria in preterm birth and infection. Through the Human Vaginal Microbiome Project, we found that African American women are more likely to have higher bacterial alpha diversity and to be colonized by bacterial vaginosis-associated bacteria, whereas women of European ancestry are more likely to be colonized by lactobacilli.
