Professor French and his team are engaged in competitive research and development in the field of inflammatory skin disease and tumor immunology. He is the author of over 450 original publications with an h-index of 66, and over 19000 citations. In 2012 Professor French was awarded the Otto-Naegeli Prize for the promotion of medical research, one of Switzerland's most prestigious scientific awards.

Professor French is recognized at an international level through his numerous leadership activities in large Societies. He is currently Past-President (2019-2023) of the International League of Dermatological Societies (ILDS, www.ILDS.org) and has served as a board of Directors member, Secretary-Treasurer, and past-President of the European Society of Dermatological Research (ESDR), and the European Dermatology Forum. He is a current member of the German Academy of Science Leopoldina.
