Bio
Maricar Malinis, MD, joined the faculty of the Section of Infectious Diseases in 2013. She is an Associate Professor of Medicine with a secondary appointment in the Department of Surgery (Transplant) and the Medical Director of Transplant and Oncology Infectious Diseases Program.
She obtained her bachelor's degree in Chemistry at the University of Philippines Diliman and medical degree at the University of Philippines College of Medicine. She came to the United States for post-graduate training. She completed her internal medicine residency at Seton Hall Graduate Medical Education (New Jersey). Afterward, she did fellowship training in Geriatric Medicine at the University of Michigan, Infectious Diseases at the University of Louisville, and Transplant Infectious Diseases at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
She is an active member of the American Society of Transplantation (AST) and the AST Infectious Diseases Community of Practice (IDCOP). She was the inaugural chair of the AST IDCOP Older Adult Working Group (2019-2021). In addition, she is currently serving her term as the member-at-large of the AST ID COP and the councilor of the Transplant Infectious Diseases Section of The Transplantation Society. She is an active member of the Infectious Diseases Society of America. She completed her 4-year term as a member of the IDSA Clinical Affairs Committee in 2021. She is an inaugural member of the IDSA Digital Advisory Group, served as vice-chair between 2020-2021, and will be serving as chair starting October 2021 to 2023. She served as a Member-at-large of the Organ Procurement Transplant Network Ad hoc Disease Transmission Advisory Committee between 2017-2020.
She is the co-director of the Transplant Infectious Disease Clinical Track. Since 2015, seven fellows have completed this clinical track. Her clinical research is focused on the clinical outcomes of transplantation in people living with HIV and older adults. She participates in several multi-center clinical research and clinical trials. She is the primary investigator of the HIV Organ Policy Equity (HOPE) Act clinical trial at Yale and several multi-center clinical trials of novel anti-viral agents for immunocompromised hosts.
