My research focuses on cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) based biomarkers of myocardial injury.

Firstly I am trying to establish if acute CMR scans, done before patients with suspected acute coronary syndrome go for invasive coronary angiogram, can act as a safe gate keeper for the latter. i.e. can an acute CMR scan prevent unnecessary invasive procedures in patients with chest pain and signs of myocardial injury on blood test? Secondly, T1 mapping using CMR offers the possibility of a needle-free, non-contrast and fast CMR scans with an in-line analysis of pathology. During my DPhil study, I will assess the role of acute CMR scans in guiding individualised patient management (precision medicine), reducing healthcare provider costs and in predicting clinical outcomes.
