Peter was Associate Editor of Journal of Bone and Mineral Research from 2008-2012. He currently serves on the Editorial Board of Osteoporosis International and is Editor of Clinical Endocrinology (Oxf)and Editor-in-Chief of Bone Reports. He is Medical Director of Osteoporosis Australia; Board Member,International Osteoporosis Foundation; President-Elect, American Society of Bone and Mineral Research, the first to be elected outside of North America; Past-President, Endocrine Society of Australia; past-President of the Australian and New Zealand Bone and Mineral Society (ANZBMS). He was on the NHMRC Academy (2009-2014) and served on the NHMRC Research Committee (2015-2018).

Professor Ebeling has an H-index of 72; 24,300 citations; and has over 420 peer-reviewed publications, including in the New England Journal of Medicine, Science, Proceedings of the National Academy of Science (PNAUS, USA) and Journal of Bone and Mineral Research. There have been 136 publications over the last 10 years, and 83 publications over the last 5 years.

In 2015, Professor Ebeling was made an Officer in the Order of Australia (AO) for his distinguished service to medicine in the field of bone health, through academic contributions and research initiatives in a range of administrative, executive and professional roles.
