Professor Piergiorgio Messa (6/May/1951) 6th of may 1951. First-class degree graduation (Medicine in Padova) (1975) Specialist in Nephrology (1978) and in Hematology (1984) Training in Medicine and Nephrology (University of Padova from 1973 to 1978) Register of Physicians and Surgeons of the Province of Udine, registration number 3362 He worked in the Divisions of Nephrology, Dialysis and Transplantation in Udine and thereafter in Genova, mainly involved in the clinical and research fields of renal transplantation and mineral metabolism. Chief of the Division of Nephrology and Dialysis (from 1st Febr 2002 to 31 Jan 2004;Ospedale S. Andrea-La Spezia). From the 1st February 2004 up 31st October 2021 Director of the Division of Nephrology, Dialysis of the Ospedale Maggiore-Policlinico in Milan. From the 1st Dec 2013 Director of the Department of Nephrology, Urology and Renal Transplant of IRCCS Foundation Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico of Milan From the first Dec 2013 Co-director of the Department of Medicine of IRCCS Foundation Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico of Milan From the 1st Jan 2009 Co-scientific director of IRCCS Foundation Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico of Milan From 1st september 2016 he is Full Professor of Nephrology at the Università degli Studi di Milano _Italia He has been adjunct-professor in the Graduation Courses of Medicine and Postgraduate Courses of Nephrology of the University of Medicine in the University of Milan in the previous years He teached in the Postgraduate Course of Nehrology and Urology of the University of Genova; he was adjunct-professor in the Postgraduate courses of Nephrology of the University of Medicine in Padova;. He was member of the Directory Board of the Italian Society of Nephrology, member of the Directory Board of the Italian Society of Mineral and Electrolyte Metabolism. Member of the Steering Committee for the production of Italian Nephrology Guide-lines. He was awarded the “Arturo Borsatti” price on 1997. He was the Scientific President of the national Congress of the Italian Society of Nephrology in 2006 (Rome) He has been the Secretary of the World Nephrology Congress of 2009 In 2019 He was elected as the incoming president of the Italian Society of Nephrology From 2020 to 2022 he will be president in charge of the Italian Society of Nephrology. He published more than 400 papers, 388 of which in indexed journals (e.g. NEJM, Lancet, KI, CJASN, AJKD, NDT, Transplantation, JN, Nephron, Clin Sci, Clinical Nephrol, SMI, etc ). He is theme editor of NDT and in the editorial board of JN, Frontiers in Medicine, Frontiers in Nephrology, Nutrients and serves as referee for the following journals: AJT, KI, NDT, AJKD, CJASN, Nature Nephrology, Curr Op Drug Metab Tox, JN, Blood Purification, J Art Org, Renal Fail, Giornale It Nefrol, Scanning Microscopy, Endocrinology, Digestive Diseases and Sciences, etc. He had talks in more than 500 national and international symposia and a number of lectures in the Postgraduate Courses of Nephrology in the Univesities of Medicine in Trieste, Padova, Bologna, Perugia.
