T. Martijn Kuijper

My original background is in medicine and clinical epidmiology. In addtion, I have obtained a PhD degree in medicine (rheumatoid arthrititis) and a master's degree in statistical data analysis. Currently, I am working as a statistician at the Maasstad Hospital (Rotterdam, NL). I provide support with the design and analyses of studies hospitalwide. I also teach and supervise master and PhD students with their work on their theses. In addition I develop and apply methods for data manipulation, visualization and extraction that can be used in the hospital for purposes of research, monitoring (dashboards) and benchmarking. I work intenstively with the department of rheumatology. Part of the research I support is a continuation of the work of my PhD thesis, which focused on the tapering of medication and the association of patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In addition, I collaborate (among others), with the departement of trauma surgery (prospective study on hip fractures), burn unit (validation of laser speckle imaging), anesthesiology (prospective study on chronic pain) and internal medicine (prediction model on covid-19 severity). My personal interest lies in the field of biomedical statistics. I enjoy learning and applying state-of-the-art statistical techniques and making them available to researchers in the field.
