Tamara Filipovic

I obtained my bachelor's degree in Biochemistry at the University of Belgrade in 2019. For my final thesis, I worked at the Oncology and Radiology Institute in Belgrade, where my interests shifted from protein biochemistry to the intricate nature of tumor biology. Therefore, I decided to pursue a master's degree in Oncology at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. During my education, I was happy to be included in research concerning the biology of cancer-associated fibroblasts in breast cancer, where I was able to obtain a strong work ethic in a laboratory setting. For my final thesis, I looked at how the genetic makeup of cancer cells can influence the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment in liver cancer. In the future, I hope to help cancer patients in a more direct way, not only through breakthrough research but also by improving end-of-life care in the clinical setting.
