I have developed a high level of understanding of the importance of team development, value based leadership, patient flow, patient safety and policy implementation mechanisms and barriers within health service delivery.
I have a particular interest in practical and academic approaches to the know-do gap, implementation strategies and interventions in complex health policy and service delivery settings, linking immediate outcomes to broader values of health care personell, patient care and hospital and public health objectives.
I have more than 28 years of experience in roles as health policy advisor, consultant, clinician, researcher, health technology entrepreneur, manager of clinical work and patient safety, hospital leadership, development and organization from Norway, East Africa and the Horn of Africa. Nine years at executive management level as hospital director at Haydom Lutheran Hospital in Tanzania and Flekkefjord hospital in Norway and more than 16 years as senior health manager and advisor at Stavanger University Hospital and various roles in East Africa and the Horn of Africa.
I worked as health policy advisor at national and district level in Tanzania and Research Coordinator of an EU funded multi-country, multisite project evaluating priority setting mechanisms at district health level in Zambia (REACT), Tanzania and Kenya, consultant in Rwanda, Somaliland and Nairobi and Medical Doctor in hospitals in Norway.
My training, in addition to my medical degree from University of Bergen, Norway, includes MSc in Health Policy, Planning and Financing from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine / London School of Economics, PhD in international health policy from the Centre for International Health and Institute of Global and Public Health, University of Bergen, Norway (focusing on "quality for trust") medical specialty in Public Health and executive leadership course through the National Health Authority in Norway.
