Zeno Varanini currently works at the Department of Biotechnology, University of Verona. Zeno does research in Agricultural Plant Science. He has a wide experience in the field of plant nutrition with particular enphases on the mechanisms taking place at the root-soil interface in nutritional processess.The main subjects of research concern: • Characterization of primary and secondary transport systems of herbaceous and woody plants, their modulation by environmental factors, nutrient availability and by humic compounds present at the rhizosphere; • agronomic and agrochemical aspects of soil-plant interaction. Their most recent publication is 'Water-extractable humic substances speed up transcriptional response of maize roots to nitrate.'
