Janith A Seneviratne

Janith completed a Bachelor of Advanced Science at UNSW (pharmacology), while undertaking his honours project at the Children's Cancer Institute in the Embryonal Cancer Therapy and Prevention (ECTP) group headed by Prof Glenn Marshall in 2016. He stayed on shortly as a research assistant before starting his PhD project (molecular biology and bioinformatics focused) in 2017 with the same research group under the joint supervision of Dr Belamy Cheung and Dr Daniel Carter, which was then completed in 2021. Janith then continued shortly as a research officer in the ECTP group. The studies undertaken in his time at CCI focused on translational research that evaluated drug combination therapies and applied single cell RNA-sequencing with bioinformatic techniques to understand intratumoural heterogeneity contributing to chemotherapy resistance in embryonal tumours. In 2022 Janith started a position at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre as a postdoctoral researcher in the laboratory headed by Dr Melanie Eckersley-Maslin to investigate epigenetic mechanisms/factors that mediate cellular plasticity in cancer/stem cells using bioinformatic methods and cutting-edge molecular biology techniques.
